What are your thoughts on poker points/rankings/player of the year etc.? Join the discussion in the comments.
There’s been some discussion about having a long-range tournament or something, where we track points across several games. It’s prolly too late this year to start one (or maybe not) but I’ve been giving it a little thought.
I’m thinking of using a simplified version of the method many poker tourneys employ. (I won’t be keeping track of the buy-in amount, for example.)
Points take into account the size of the starting field and the place of your finish. So, for the last game, it would look something like this:
Brian 1 35pts
Tim 2 24pts
Mark 3 20pts
Jason 4 17pts
Sebas. 5 15pts
I’m not sure these are the correct places, BTW. It’s just an example. These points are for a game with 12 entrants. (I think that’s right.)
With only 8 entrants, for example, 1st place would pay 28, rather than 35, points. Fifth would pay 12 points, rather than 15.
The formula is:
Points = 10 * [sqrt(#entrants)/sqrt(place)]
Thoughts?
We’d have to decide how to score chops, as well. If Brian and I chop for 1st, do we both score first place points? Second place points?
I like it…Chops should be ranked by chip stack.
There’s a good case to be made for that. OTOH, I hate to do anything that outright discourages chops. Some people might want to hang on and play longer rather than take fewer points.
Prob be normal NL Holdem for the 1st game…may sway out for the 2nd though
DANGER! DANGER WILL ROBINSON!
