The Main Event Free-Roll

The 2013 GSOP will culminate in a deep stack free-roll –  The Main Event –  for 70% of the final pot.

There will be no re-buys or add-ons. Players will receive 50 100 chips per point, giving the top 10 players around 12,000 to 45,000 in starting chips.

The GSOP points formula is:

Points = 10 * [sqrt(#entrants)/sqrt(place)]
(Points equal ten times the square root of the number of entrants, divided by the square root of your finish.)

Points take into account the size of the starting field and the place of your finish.

Any player who participates in a game will always receive at least 10 points, even if he or she is the first eliminated.

Points-paying games

The first two games on all regular scheduled nights will pay points. Subsequent games, if any, will not pay points unless otherwise announced.

Chopping

In the case of a chop, the division of points will be decided by the players chopping. By default, the points will be chopped evenly but players may agree to a different distribution (e.g. assigning points by stack size at the time of the chop.)

Pot

Players who wish to participate in the GSOP will pay an extra $5 per night. This covers both games (if two games are played.) The $5 applies even if the player only participates in one of the night’s games.

This $5 must be paid prior to sitting down to play.

Players may opt in or out of the GSOP pot on a night-by-night basis. Players who opt out of the GSOP pot on a given night will earn no GSOP points for that night’s games.

Prizes

(1000)

The current plan is to divide the final prize pool into two parts. 30% will go to the winner. The remaining 70% will form the prize pool for a year end free-roll game. Anyone with any GSOP points is awarded an entry to the game. Chip stacks will be proportional to the players’ GSOP points.

I’ve added a new Poker Points Calculator page. You’ll find it in the upper right-hand corner under SPECIAL.

    You’re welcome.

  2. Hoolign says:

    25 chips per point

  3. Hoolign says:

    dis·cus·sion
    /disˈkəSHən/
    Noun

1 The action or process of talking about something, typically in order to reach a decision or to exchange ideas.
2 A conversation or debate about a certain topic.

  4. Hoolign says:

    “Lets talk about this topic”
    person 2:

    person 1:
    “&$%^ you!”

Reminds me how the Bush terms were lol!

    Opinion:
Close to 100,000 chips for top 4-5 people is insane
were playing 25-25 at 30 minute levels my man, not playing with 4000 BB’s

The longer levels also add to the “Deep Stack, long last” game
Also, the blinds will increase slower.

Thus my opinion is that starting with 25 chips per point.
Since we are exactly half way right now (26 games out of 52 in the year) we can project based on the first six month turnout roughly double the points sooooooo…

    It would look like this:
    Derek 23300
    Patrick 21900
    Mark 20800
    …etc
    Harper 5650
    Rosen 2350
    …etc
    Tanner 650

Thats pretty deep and that leaves this people who didnt put anything in a relatively short stack…

Does Tanner deserve 1300 with blinds at 25/25 just cuz he bought in one time? No
Same with Rosen and Harper, your talking about giving Rosen 5K and Harper over 11K.

Thats not a short stack with the deep stack tournament philosophy. In fact, Harper having 5650 amazes me… That would be projected on him playing a total of 12 games or 6 Sat. Nights the whole year…

Shit, lets make it 20 per point!
    j/k…

Thats My Argument entry into the “discussion”

I see what you’re saying but my thought is that a ‘normal’ stack game gives you access to around 30K-40K in chips. That is, I have to lose 30-40K in chips before I bust out.

So, to me, an arrangement that gives me 20K in chips doesn’t really count as ‘deep stack.’ I can go through 40K in chips – twice that much – at any game at Brian’s. I can go thru 30K in chips, 150% as much, at your game.

I’m not falling for the 25/25 blind rationale, either. We both know that those levels play at much higher effective blinds (i.e. 10-20x the blind).

Slower blinds will help but, let’s face it, they’re still pretty fast, especially when you consider the speed of our games, where it can take 20-30 minutes to do a single orbit.

    • mark says:

I don’t see why Tanner doesn’t deserve whatever amount of chips for buying in once. That was the deal. If he never buys in again, he gets something like 650 chips, while you get 43,000. Isn’t that a big enough gap for you?

  5. Hoolign says:

    Normal stack =10000
    Chip leader stack=23000

    No one gets 30K-40K

But Fuck it… Lets make it 1000 chips per point. I’ll go buy a bunch of 5K and 10K chips and we’ll play for 4 days to see who wins.

20000 starting chips is a deep stack when blinds will be 100-200 after 2 hours of play.

If we play with 50 chips per point, then I say we play normal Garage format:
    start @ 100-200 and 20 min blinds.

Thats my last word on it, done bickering, Freed’s decision, when reached, is final.

  6. Hoolign says:

my only question now is who is buying all the extra chips well need???

  7. Hoolign says:

why did these pages get combined? is the chips per point argument really that important???

    • mark says:

There were no pages to be combined. Chips per/point was always part of this page, it was just a very small note.

Since this is the only discussion happening here at the moment – everything else is long settled – I put it on the top so that people checking the page would at least see it and think about it for a second before scrolling down to check points.

    • mark says:

      And yes, it is.

  8. Hoolign says:

all this on chip points and we cant even get a point update! Damn!

  9. Hoolign says:

    1000 chips per point!

  10. Hoolign says:

can we get the points from 7/13 posted? Thx WebMASTER =)

  11. Hollywood says:

20 per point and blinds start at Fred’s normal 100-200

  12. snowman says:

Freed’s normal with 50 per point – remember this is for the Championship ! I think it should take a little longer than regular games do. What ever the House say’s is fine with me. Shark or Donkey. Donkey with shark teeth. Potato, potato.

  13. admin says:

    Bracelet ordered. $71 spent.
